O Benfica anunciou esta quinta-feira no seu site oficial que a Benfica TV adquiriu os direitos televisivos da Premier League para as próximas três temporadas (2013-2016).
O acordo abrange um total de 380 jogos por época, divididos em 38 jornadas. A partir da nova época 2013/14, a Premier League vai ser transmitida em Portugal e em exclusivo pela Benfica TV.

A partir da nova época 2013/14, a Barclays Premier League vai ser transmitida em Portugal e em exclusivo pela Benfica TV.
«A inovação é um valor permanente do Benfica e o facto de podermos oferecer, nos próximos três anos, os jogos da Liga inglesa a todos os portugueses, e não apenas aos benfiquistas, é algo que me enche de orgulho e aponta o caminho que queremos para a Benfica TV», afirmou Luís Filipe Vieira, presidente do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
Richard Scudamore, Director Executivo da Premier League, manifestou igualmente a satisfação pelo acordo alcançado: «Estamos extremamente satisfeitos pela Benfica TV ter investido nos nossos direitos de transmissão. Estamos ansiosos por trabalhar com o Benfica e estamos confiantes de que irão transmitir a Barclays Premier League de forma abrangente e inovadora para os nossos fãs em Portugal.»
Em complemento à transmissão dos jogos da Liga inglesa, a Benfica TV transmitirá mais três programas semanais, cuja produção é da responsabilidade da Premier League:
a) «Premier League Review», um programa sobre os melhores momentos dos jogos realizados em cada fim-de-semana;
b) «Premier League Preview», uma antevisão da jornada seguinte;
c) Um terceiro, o «Premier League World», um magazine televisivo que faz uma viagem sobre toda a actualidade da Premier League com entrevistas, resumos dos jogos, estatísticas e que recorda, ainda, momentos do passado que fazem parte da história da competição.
